Sky Sports have put Alexander Isak under the spotlight and looked at what has happened since he swapped Newcastle United for Liverpool.

Deadline day of the summer transfer window finally seeing the Sweden international force his way out of St James’ Park, having gone on strike across the summer.

Fair to say that the move from Newcastle United to Liverpool hasn’t exactly gone to plan…

Unless of course you were hoping to see him fail!

Alexander Isak has now only scored one goal in seven months against top tier opposition in the Premier League and Champions League.

Sky Sports have shone the spotlight beyond those headline (lack of) goals stats, looking at the underlying pointers.

Sky Sports comparing how Alexander Isak was performing for Newcastle United in the Premier League last season, compared to when now playing for Liverpool this current season.

Alexander Isak  last season averaged 33.2 touches per Premier League match for Newcastle United, compared to only 17.1 touches per PL game for Liverpool.

Touches in the box per PL game? it was 6.2 per match for Newcastle, only 1.4 for Liverpool.

It was 2.9 shots per PL match for NUFC in 2024/25, only 1.9 for Liverpool.

It was 1.4 shots on target per PL game last season for Newcastle, only 0.4 for Liverpool.

Whilst when it comes to getting big chances to score per game, Alexander Isak getting an average of 1.06 per PL match with Newcastle last season, only 0.71 with Newcastle United.

My thoughts

As experts/pundits have been saying for some time now, you can’t be giving Alexander Isak the excuse now of having missed the entire summer and pre-season, plus the opening weeks of the season (all due to his own shameless behaviour) and that affecting his form now.

He just hasn’t looked the same player that we watched so often perform for Newcastle United.

I think for me that these stats above, just underline how much the other Newcastle United players did for him, how they helped make Alexander Isak look such a good player. Whether the numerous assists from Murphy, the tireless work of the Newcastle United midfield, or whatever.

Ironic that all the ‘experts’ assumed that Alexander Isak would automatically be scoring even more goals, due to the LiverpoolBBC Sport neutrals 2 months on discuss Alexander Isak move to Liverpool – Intriguing players he would have around him. Interesting to see what happens longer term with both the player and his new club, as from what I have seen, this looks no temporary failing.
