Eighteen Champions League fixtures this midweek.

The seventh round of matches to be played across Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each of the 36 clubs play four games at home and four away, in this Swiss League phase.

There were nine Champions League fixtures yesterday (Tuesday 20 January).

Then the other nine today.

Wednesday’s matches including Newcastle United at home to PSV Eindhoven.

In the Swiss League phase of the Champions League, the top eight clubs will automatically go through to the last 16 knockout stages.

Whilst those 16 clubs finishing between 9th and 24th out of the 36 teams, will go into the play-offs to decide the other eight clubs in the last 16.

Champions League results yesterday (Tuesday 20 January)

Kairat 1 Club Brugge 4
Bodo/Glimt 3 Man City 1
Copenhagen 1 Napoli  1
Inter Milan 1 Arsenal 3
Olympiakos 2 Bayer Leverkusen 0
Real Madrid 6 Monaco 1
Sporting Lisbon 2 PSG 1
Spurs 2 Borussia Dortmund 0
Villarreal 1 Ajax 2

That leaves the Champions League table on the morning of Wednesday 21 January 2026

Things will look a lot clearer after this seventh round of games.

The final nine Champions League fixtures in the seventh round of matches:

Wednesday 21 January

Galatasaray v Atletico Madrid (5.45pm)
Qarabag v Eintracht Frankfurt (5.45pm)
Atalanta v Athletic Club Bilbao (8pm)
Bayern Munich v Union S-G (8pm)
Chelsea v Pafos (8pm)
Juventus v Benfica (8pm)
Marseille v Liverpool (8pm)
Newcastle United v PSV (8pm)
Slavia Prague v Barcelona (8pm)

What it now means for Newcastle United?

A win against PSV Eindhoven tonight would guarantee Eddie Howe’s team going above Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon and Manchester City (if winning by four or more tonight, it would also take NUFC above PSG). So, guaranteed if winning, to be ninth at worst, or eighth if winning by 4+ (unless Chelsea and/or Barcelona have far wider winning margins tonight).

If winning tonight, Newcastle would also go above Liverpool and Atletico Madrid if they don’t win their games tonight, whilst if Atalanta lost it would also see United go above them.

So actually, if everything went our way, Newcastle United would be fifth in the Champions League table after tonight.

What last night does guarantee, is that if Eddie Howe’s team win tonight and next Wednesday in Paris, then Newcastle definitely finish above PSG and would be all but guaranteed a top eight automatic qualifying spot.

It is very possible that Newcastle United’s ten points from six games will have already been enough to get a play-off spot as a minimum.

However, a point against PSV would very likely guarantee it, whilst a win would make absolutely sure.
