PSV Eindhoven elite 11 months record has to be broken by Newcastle United
PSV Eindhoven will play Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
The seventh round of the Swiss League stage of the Champions League and everything to play for.
Last season, PSV Eindhoven won their domestic league by one point, ahead of runners-up Ajax.
The reigning Dutch champions have all but secured another league title, currently 16 points ahead of Feyenoord in a distant second.
Last season, PSV Eindhoven reached the Champions League last 16 knockout stages, defeating the likes of Juventus, Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk, Girona and Red Star Belgrade.
This time, whilst PSV Eindhoven have lost to Union S-G and Atletico Madrid, they have picked up credible draws away at Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiakos.
Whilst the leading Dutch club have also hammered reigning English league champions Liverpool 4-1 AND reigning Italian champions Napoli 6-2!
This is not an easy game for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United…
Indeed, there is one other striking thing about PSV Eindhoven.
Their away form is even better than their home form.
Indeed, Newcastle United will need to break a run of almost 11 months since PSV Eindhoven lost any away game in any competition, including the Champions League.
This season, PSV Eindhoven away from home in all competitions have:
Played Played 12 Won 10 Drawn 2 Lost 0
In these 12 away matches in the Champions League and Dutch domestic league, PSV Eindhoven have scored 32 goals and conceded 11.
So on the road they are roughly averaging a 3-1 scoreline each away game.
Newcastle United need to emulate Go Ahead Eagles, they are the last side to defeat (3-2) a visiting PSV Eindhoven side.
If Eddie Howe’s side can do this, they will be guaranteed at the very least a play-off spot for the last 16, whilst if also winning away at PSG, very likely automatic progress to the last 16.
The six Champions League that PSV Eindhoven have played this season, there has been 26 goals (15 scored by PSV and 11 by opposition teams) in total, averaging more than four goals per match.
Wednesday night is not going to be goalless!
