Champions League fixtures as Newcastle United look for move back into top 8 qualifying spot

There are 18 Champions League fixtures this midweek.

The seventh round of matches to be played these next two days (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Each of the 36 clubs play four games at home and four away, in this Swiss League phase.

There are nine Champions League fixtures today (Tuesday 20 January).

Then another nine tomorrow.

Wednesday’s matches including Newcastle United at home to PSV Eindhoven.

Great to see Dan Burn and Will Osula both involved in training on Tuesday morning ahead of tomorrow night’s match.

In the Swiss League phase of the Champions League, the top eight clubs will automatically go through to the last 16 knockout stages.

Whilst those 16 clubs finishing between 9th and 24th out of the 36 teams, will go into the play-offs to decide the other eight clubs in the last 16.

Champions League table on the morning of 20 January 2026

Things will look a lot clearer after this seventh round of games.

Champions League fixtures in the seventh round of matches:

Tuesday 20 January

Kairat v Club Brugge (3.30pm)
Bodo/Glimt v Man City (5.45pm)
Copenhagen v Napoli  (8pm)
Inter Milan v Arsenal (8pm)
Olympiakos v Bayer Leverkusen (8pm)
Real Madrid v Monaco (8pm)
Sporting Lisbon v PSG(8pm)
Spurs v Borussia Dortmund (8pm)
Villarreal v Ajax (8pm)

Wednesday 21 January

Galatasaray v Atletico Madrid (5.45pm)
Qarabag v Eintracht Frankfurt (5.45pm)
Atalanta v Athletic Club Bilbao (8pm)
Bayern Munich v Union S-G (8pm)
Chelsea v Pafos (8pm)
Juventus v Benfica (8pm)
Marseille v Liverpool (8pm)
Newcastle United v PSV (8pm)
Slavia Prague v Barcelona (8pm)

It is very likely that Newcastle United’s ten points from six games will have already been enough to get a play-off spot as a minimum.

However, a point against PSV would very likely guarantee it, whilst a win would make absolutely sure.

If United win on Wednesday, then it also opens up the very strong probability that if also winning in Paris a week on Wednesday against PSG, that could mean top eight and automatically through to the last 16 knockout stages.
