Troy Deeney declares Newcastle United star ‘Given a little spark and put that devil back in him’
Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the weekend action.
The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.
Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.
This NUFC player with a great performance in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
United’s final match before Christmas.
Troy Deeney explains why he has picked out Nick Woltemade for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:
“He scored two goals and should probably have got a hat-trick against Chelsea at the weekend.
“It looks like the return of Yoane Wissa has given him a little spark and put that devil back in him.
“He is scoring and getting in the right positions. A few weeks ago he went off the boil a bit and maybe he had got a bit comfortable.”
Troy Deeney Premier League team of the week:
Gianluigi Donnarumma (Manchester City)
Reece James (Chelsea)
Piero Hincapie (Arsenal)
Joachim Andersen (Fulham)
Antonee Robinson (Fulham)
Keane Lewis-Potter (Brentford)
Ethan Ampadu (Leeds)
Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)
Nick Woltemade (Newcastle United)
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds)
Manager:
Daniel Farke (Leeds United)
I think that Troy Deeney is correct when saying that the availability of Yoane Wissa has been a massive positive. Of course, it hasn’t been a “return” for Wissa to the Newcastle United matchday squad, as ne never got the chance to be involved in the opening months of the season, injured on international duty.
Troy Deeney suggesting that Big Nick “went off the boil a bit and maybe he had got a bit comfortable”, isn’t really hitting the mark.
It was more a case of Nick Woltemade having had to start pretty much every match for his club (and country) this season, as Yoane Wissa wasn’t available, Will Osula also carrying an injury and then ruled out altogether as well.
The Fulham midweek cup match saw Yoane Wissa start and when replaced by Nick Woltemade, the Germany international looked far sharper when he came on, having had the benefit of not having to start yet another match.
Against Chelsea, Nick Woltemade had the freedom to run his socks off for 70 minutes and looked far more dangerous, as he and Eddie Howe knew that Yoane Wissa was able to come on and play the final 20+ minutes.
Having both strikers now available is in my opinion, going to be a real game changer in the weeks and months ahead.
