Rudi Voller has now weighed in on the Nick Woltemade debate.

This follows Newcastle United paying £65m to Stuttgart for the striker at the end of the summer transfer window, plus a potential £4.3m more in the future in terms of add-ons.

Bayern Munich furious after they had tried and failed to bully their Bundesliga rival and get Nick Woltemade on the cheap. Three lowball Bayern Munich offers infuriating Stuttgart, as the reigning domestic champions attempted to get their intended long-term replacement for Harry Kane for well below the asking price.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United stepped in to meet Stuttgart’s asking price.

This led to an embarrassing coordinated campaign from senior Bayern Munich figures, feeding a willing German media with quotes, ridiculing Newcastle United for paying Stuttgart’s asking price.

Their shameful antics including claims that Newcastle United were “idiots” for paying £65m, for the Germany national team centre-forward AND somebody who Bayern Munich had been desperate to sign.

Just under four months on after United bought the striker, Nick Woltemade has now started 25 games for Germany and Newcastle United, scoring 13 goals and getting two assists.

Rudi Voller is a legend of German football, an outstanding striker back in the day, now he has gone public with his comments on Nick Woltemade joining Newcastle United and the £65m fee that was paid.

But with Woltemade having scored nine goals in 23 appearances for Newcastle so far, Germany’s director of professional football, Rudi Völler, believes the 23-year-old has shown he was worth every penny – and that the fee could even have been higher.

Rudi Voller is now Director of the Germany national set up and he has told Kicker; “I went to the Germany Under 21 games and everyone knew Nick Woltemade had talent.”

Like the Newcastle United striker, Rudi Voller is also a former Werder Bremen player and states that “nobody talks about” the transfer fee Newcastle United paid.

Rudi Voller declaring that the £65m paid by Newcastle was “Almost a bargain in the end.”

The former Germany international summing the 23 year old striker up, when adding that “Nick Woltemade…his quality is truly exceptional.”
