‘I knew Nick Woltemade wouldn’t get worse…’ Sebastian Hoeness

Sebastian Hoeness has been talking about Nick Woltemade.

The VFB Stuttgart Head Coach lost his star striker in late August.

Bayern Munich failed in their attempts to bully their Bundesliga rival to sell Nick Woltemade on the cheap.

A total of three bids rejected, all well under the asking price, the highest one coming in at £52m, for a Germany international striker who they wanted to be the long-term replacement for Harry Kane.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United then swooped in and took advantage of Bayern’s shameless disrespectful behaviour, meeting the £65m asking price and Stuttgart agreeing to sell Nick Woltemade, with a further potential £4.3m in future add-ons also possible.

Sebastian Hoeness had no doubts as to the departing young striker’s future, telling Sport Bild; “Nick Woltemade wouldn’t get worse, he’d get better, a Germany international and even more in demand. I believe the transfer fee quickly proved reasonable and that Nick could have become even more expensive.”

Since signing for Newcastle United, Nick Woltemade has started 25 matches for club and country, controbuting 15 direct goal involvements, scoring 13 goals and getting two assists.

Sebastian Hoeness explaining why he knew Nick Woltemade would become an ‘outstanding’ striker with Newcastle United; “I knew that Nick was a very good striker and that he would become an outstanding one. That is due to his footballing quality, his profile, and his height (1.98 metres). As a person, he is open, eager to learn, and intelligent. He represents growth and development.”

Stuttgart are doing well in Nick Woltemade’s absence, currently sixth in the Bundesliga, though they have scored less goals than all of the clubs in the top seven.

Sebastian Hoeness and Nick Woltemade have kept in touch after his move to Tyneside “Since his transfer, we have spoken on the phone two or three times. The intensity in the Premier League is incredibly high and he had to adapt immediately. But he is capable of doing that! This is why it didn’t surprise me that it worked out for him and that he continues on his steep trajectory.”

After 19 starts for Newcastle United, Nick Woltemade has scored nine goals now, the latest two coming on Saturday against Chelsea, Eddie Howe full of praise for Big Nick BUT at the same time, knowing there is so much more to come; “You can see that when he scores, Nick has got a really good connection with the fans. You can see that the crowd are really happy for him and he is happy to embrace the celebrations. It was his best performance [so far] for the team I thought on Saturday. The second goal in particular was an incredible finish and he will probably be frustrated because the easier one just on half-time would have been a great moment for him”

Nice to see that after so much Bayern Munich sour grapes nonsense pushed in the German media and lazily repeated by our own useless media in the UK, we are now seeing more credible reporting from over in Germany. With in recent days Director of the Germany national side, Rudi Voller, saying how he could see the quality of Nick Woltemade back when he was playing for the Under 21s and what a special player he was going to be.
