Newcastle United Sporting Director makes public these contract discussions with key players
Newcastle United Sporting Director Ross Wilson has been talking about the contract situations with certain individuals.
Newcastle United players who the club are keen to get new deals agreed with.
The recently installed Newcastle United Sporting Director admits he was pleasantly surprised to discover the situation regarding Sandro Tonali, when Wilson arrived from Nottingham Forest.
A couple of months ago it was revealed that rather than the Italy international having a contract that runs to the end of June 2028. The reality is that it effectively runs to the end of June 2030.
His contract having secretly been extended to end of June 2029 AND an extra season on top of that, which Newcastle United can choose to trigger, effectively meaning Tonali is contracted for another four and a half years as things currently stand.
Ross Wilson though explaining to journalists covering Newcastle United, that two other contracts are big priorities, that will be hopefully extended in the near future:
“My first few days in the job was when I found out that Sandro Tonalis contract situation was significantly better than the one that I was expecting.
“My first days were about analysing contracts.
“Where are we?
“Where are we strong?
“Where are we weak?
“Where have we got issues?
“It is no secret at all that we would want to extend Tino Livarmento’s contract.
“We would also want to extend Sven Botman’s contract too.
“These discussions are ongoing.
“Some discussions are more difficult than others but the desire would be to keep those players.
“Will they agree to these contracts?
“At the moment I think it’s too early to say.”
As you can see below, as the contracts positions show (as I understand it), Sven Botman currently has just over one and a half years left on his deal, whilst Tino Livramento just over two and a half years. Whether another season could be triggered by the club as things stand, for either of this pair, is an unknown.
However, they are both young players with their best years ahead of them and both are exceptional players when fully fit.
So this is how the updated Newcastle United contracts situation currently looks (via official club releases and media reports), when current deals are up:
End of June 2026:
Schar, Targett, Ashby, Trippier, Krafth, Lascelles, Ramsdale
End of June 2027:
Pope, Botman, Burn, Jacob Murphy, Willock
End of June 2028:
Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy
End of June 2029:
Hall, Gordon, Wissa, Thiaw, Tonali (effectively end of June 2030 as the club can trigger an extra year)
End of June 2030:
Elanga
End of June 2031:
Woltemade
