‘I think the haters of Eddie Howe are really in the minority’ Don Hutchison
Don Hutchison has been talking about Newcastle United fans and Eddie Howe.
The lifelong United fan speaking after Sunday’s derby match.
Don Hutchison of course played for the Mackems, as well as the likes of Liverpool.
When it comes to this Newcastle United derby defeat, Hutchison describing it as a real off day and says United’s “horrendous away form” has to radically improve.
In the Premier League, Eddie Howe’s side have played eight games away and won one, drawn three and lost four, picking up six points from a possible 24. Whereas at St James’ Park, they have banked 16 points from the eight home PL matches.
In all competitions, away from home Newcastle United have won two and lost five, compared to home form of won ten and lost three.
When it comes to which players he saw as the biggest negatives on Sunday, Don Hutchison says that whilst he can excuse an off day from Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, as they have been so consistent this season in most matches, he feels it is a different story for the wingers.
Hutchison saying that both Anthony Elanga and Anthony Gordon have to step it up.
Asked by oddsboom whether winning the Carabao Cup in consecutive seasons would keep Eddie Howe in a job, Hutchison says about his fellow Newcastle United fans; “I think the haters of Eddie Howe are really in the minority”, and that whilst it hasn’t been a great season for United, he thinks winning the League Cup or indeed any trophy this season would be “more than enough” to ensure Eddie Howe’s job wouldn’t be under threat.
Don Hutchison adding that whilst Newcastle United fans have the right to have a go at their manager regarding any particular match or issue, the same as any fanbase and manager, at the same time NUFC supporters have to recognise that Eddie Howe is an exceptional manager.
Coming into a dire situation mid-season, just over four years ago, Hutchison reminding everyone, just what a superb job Eddie Howe has done in turning things around and doing this time and time again, the one-time Sunderland player pointing out; “Eddie Howe took Newcastle United from second bottom into the Champions League…took Newcastle from second bottom to win a trophy…he has taken Newcastle United from second bottom into the Champions League twice.”
Newcastle United fan Hutchison with this parting shot for his fellow NUFC supporters if they think Eddie Howe should be replaced; “Be very careful what you wish for. I think Eddie Howe is a brilliant manager.”
I think if you needed to sum up just how brilliant a job Eddie Howe has done, then you only need to look at the question Don Hutchison was asked, to perfectly sum up how he has transformed our club and the mindsets of Newcastle fans and neutrals alike.
Hutchison asked whether or not winning a trophy would be enough to see Eddie Howe keeping his job?
Just imagine if before Eddie Howe came along, that question had been asked mid-season about any previous Newcastle United manager of the past 50+ years!!!
