Antonio Cordero (more commonly known as Antonito Cordero) has now joined Cadiz for the rest of this season.

An official Newcastle United announcement on the final day of 2025 revealing the news.

Antonito Cordero returning to Spain on loan, with his year-long deal at Westerlo in Belgium cut short.

Like so many other loan deals involving young Newcastle United players, the teenage winger moving to Belgium has proved a disaster, after he arrived from Malaga this summer.

As in so many other cases where young NUFC players go out on loan to get plenty of first team football…but then don’t, Antonito Cordero hasn’t been allowed a single league start by Westerlo and instead only 87 minutes in seven brief appearances from the bench.

A lot of Newcastle fans pointing the finger at Shola Ameobi, who since 2019 has been the Loan Coordinator/Manager at NUFC, overseeing young players sent out on loan.

The Club President of Cadiz, Manuel Vizcaino, had earlier revealed that the Spanish club were trying to sign Antonito Cordero.

Ahad of joining Newcastle United this summer, Antonio Cordero seen as one of the best emerging young talents in Spain and attracting interest from many clubs, Cordero managed 13 direct goal involvements for Malaga in the 2024/25 season, scoring six and getting seven assists.

Cadiz are on a big push to try and make it into La Liga, currently sixth in the table and looking for extra quality that can help them secure that promotion to the Spanish top tier.

Antoñito Cordero Signing Newcastle United

Newcastle United official announcement – 31 December 2025:

‘Antonio Cordero has returned from a loan spell at KVC Westerlo and will join Cádiz CF on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The 19-year-old made eight appearances in all competitions in Belgium, with Westerlo currently sitting tenth in the 16-team Belgian Pro League.

Antonio returns to Cádiz after spending the 2016/17 season with the club’s youth set-up, and he will now represent the first team in a league he knows well.

The winger made 39 appearances for Málaga in the Spanish Segunda División last season before sealing a switch to the Magpies.’
