Burnley fans comments on Newcastle United ahead of St James’ Park clash
Burnley fans discussing Newcastle United and the upcoming match on Saturday.
A 3pm kick-off at St James’ Park.
Burnley fans watched on as their team picked up ten points from their opening nine Premier League matches.
However, after consecutive victories in matches eight and nine against Leeds and Wolves respectively, it has been five defeats in a row ahead of facing Newcastle United.
Burnley fans commenting via their Up The Clarets message board:
‘Not expecting a result at Newcastle, but would love to see a more positive performance. Fulham at home after that would be the deal breaker for me. If we lose that at a whimper it might be a good time for a change of regime.’
‘Scott Parker has shown his limitations at Bournemouth and Fulham previously.
Also, how many defeats on the spin is too many?
It’s a given we’ll lose at Newcastle so we’re already at 6.
Are we genuinely accepting a 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 game losing streak because gambling on a new Manager isn’t a guarantee …’
‘No point playing Flemming against the Newcastle back three, or Edwards against a side with Livramento and Hall as very attacking wide men.’
‘There was an air of resignation about it at the end (after Palace defeat) and it’s now just a case of wondering if (rather than when) we’ll win another game. At least Newcastle has some great pubs!’
‘We went in the dog & parrot for a pint last time as it was close to the train station but we ended up staying for a couple of hours..’
‘Centurion bar at station, Victoria Comet opposite station, Bodega, Mean Eyed Cat St Thomas street, Trent House – Newcastle a city full of good pubs’
‘We are staying overnight so will be looking for somewhere to eat Saturday evening. Any recommendations gratefully received.’
‘I’m sure the Newcastle owners must be looking at Glasner or Iraola.
They aren’t pumping that much money in to be in the bottom half.’
‘They could always do a straight swap with Bournemouth
whereby Iraola goes to Toon and Eddie goes home.’
‘If Eddie Howe was ever unlucky enough to get sacked by Newcastle, I’d be delighted to see him back here.’
‘Babucho Quayside is a cracking Italian restaurant.’
‘Christmas markets will be on. Not really my thing but some of our crowd fancy it and as I live in Newcastle I can enjoy my own favourite bars and restaurants any time.’
‘the Mags v Spurs match and VAR gives the penalty for a holding foul by Betancour against Burn during a corner. Wow! How brave of them. We see that every week in just about every match. I expect at least four penalties a match going forward if it is applied consistently. It won’t be of course…’
‘I’d love to know why Newcastle got a penalty against Spurs and we didn’t against Chelsea.’
‘The penalty last night is a more obvious penalty than the Esteve incident v Chelsea, not least because it happens on the pitch rather than off it (Esteve left the pitch v Chelsea of his own volition and was blocked from re-entering). The defender last night is essentially rugby tackling Burn.’
‘This is what VAR was brought into do. Help the ref sort out fouling at corners when he can’t be expected to see everything going on.’
‘Are Newcastle a bigger Club than Spurs then?’
‘Well, they’ve got more money.
And that’s all that matters now.’
‘I think we might actually get a point at Newcastle.’
‘My prediction Newcastle 4 Burnley 0’
‘Newcastle 3 Burnley 0’
‘Newcastle 4 Burnley 0’
‘If money bought success Newcastle would be higher than 12th in the table.’
‘One if not the worst ground in the PL for away supporters to view the game, in my opinion, unlike Burnley of course who go out of their way to accommodate them.’
‘I think we need to give it a go without Cullen, imo he really struggles physically at this level and against Newcastles midfield he could get eaten alive. ‘
‘Dan Burn 6ft 7, Woltermade 6ft 6 – Ekdal has to play for certain.’
‘We’re not lacking motivation or energy, but definitely lacking confidence now. We need the opposition to throw one in.’
‘We can’t start Broja. He’s not done anything to warrant starting. However, I would have him and Edwards as first subs after 60 odd minutes. They both need more game time to improve match fitness. We simply need to make it as difficult as we can for Newcastle to get into their stride.’
