It has now been made public that Newcastle United are set to announce the location of where their state of the art new training ground will be sited.
The Mail have the exclusive and they say it will be a ‘£200million training facility on land most recently owned by former chairman Sir John Hall.’
Craig Hope of The Mail stating Newcastle United are: ‘Ready to purchase a site in Woolsington, close to Newcastle Airport and five miles from St James’ Park. Once paperwork is completed, grand plans for a new training complex will be unveiled.’
When the Saudi Arabia PIF and Reuben family bought Newcastle United, fans were led to believe that a brand new state of the art training ground AND a much bigger stadium, would quickly be planned.
However, over four years later, Newcastle United fans still waiting for any news on what will happen regarding a stadium, nor indeed, any official announcement on the training ground.
Announcements have been promised, only to be then put back to a later and unspecified date in the future.
Hopefully this is now about to change.
The Mail reporting that construction of the new state of the art training ground is expected to take around two years and it is hoped that work will begin this year.
Craig Hope stating: ‘The Woolsington Hall plot has been owned by Sir John Hall and his family since 1994 and was mooted as a location for a new training ground in the 90s. It is next door to the private airport from which Newcastle fly to away matches and is close to Darras Hall, the exclusive estate where many of the club’s players and staff currently live.’
The man from The Mail adding: ‘Sources have indicated that the plans could include indoor and outdoor pitches, a mini stadium, accommodation options, a media suite, cinema room for presentations and spa-like facilities. It will give the club the platform to develop and retain talent. But this news is sure to provide Eddie Howe and his players with a huge boost, especially given the advantage it offers in attracting top stars to the club.’
A massive boost for everybody associated with Newcastle United, inside and outside the club, when work at last begins on this top notch facility.
Especially as it will signal that the Newcastle United owners are serious about their intention to try and make the club ‘Number One’, actions always speak louder than words.
Hopefully news on plans for the far bigger stadium will swiftly follow, these major infrastructure projects absolutely essential if Newcastle United are to be able to successfully compete long-term, on and off the pitch.
