Sheffield United have revealed details of the Will Osula deal after he signed for Newcastle United.

As is the norm these days, the Blades not announcing the exact guaranteed transfer fee, instead stating that it is a ‘considerable, undisclosed’ one.

However, Sheffield United in their official statement (see below) also giving further details.

They state that ‘The deal includes several performance-based add ons that should ensure United make further monies from the sale in the future.’

Whilst they also reveal that they will be entitled to a ‘sell on fee’ if Newcastle United ever sell Will Osula.

The media had previously claimed that it was a £10m transfer fee, plus £5m potential future add-ons, however, there had been no reporting of a sell on transfer clause, though no surprise there is one and it would be interesting to know exactly how much/what percentage it is of any future sale.

Sheffield United official statement – 8 August 2024:

‘United have agreed a considerable, undisclosed fee with a Premier League outfit for the transfer of striker Will Osula.

The Danish U21 international has joined Newcastle United, who finished seventh in the top-flight last term, on a long-term contract after the Magpies submitted a highly attractive proposal to the Blades.

The deal includes several performance-based add ons that should ensure United make further monies from the sale in the future, in addition to a sell on fee.

On the loss of Osula, boss Chris Wilder explained the reasoning behind the decision to allow the 20-year-old to leave.

He remarked: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Will and on behalf of the coaching staff, I wish him well. These situations are difficult and we have discussed it a number of times before, we are a club in a position that has to be careful that we don’t stifle opportunities for young players. Also, it is important that we get the best possible price – and protect ourselves in the future – for players that we help develop.”

The striker joined United’s Academy in 2018 and progressed through the ranks at Shirecliffe, prior to signing his first professional contract in July 2021 and making his senior debut against Blackpool in the Sky Bet Championship in March 2022.

A loan spell at Derby County, at the beginning of United’s promotion-winning campaign of 2022-23 followed, that saw him further his development, prior to returning to S2 and featuring twice in the run-in as the Blades secured a return to the Premier League.

Last term, Osula made 21 appearances in the Premier League and scored three goals in the FA Cup, with a brace at Gillingham followed by a strike against Brighton & Hove Albion at Bramall Lane. Coincidentally, his last competitive appearance for the Blades came from off the bench at St James’ Park in April.

From everyone at United, all the best for the future in the north-east, Will.’
