Contracts situation across the Newcastle United squad following Monday update

I have just been having a look at the contracts situation across the Newcastle United squad.

This follows the Monday night update on Sven Botman.

The club revealing that a new extended deal had been agreed with the Dutch defender.

His existing original five year contract had been due to run out in a year and a half’s time, the end of June 2027.

However, the official Newcastle United announcement making public that Sven Botman is now contracted until the end of June 2030.

So how are we fixed with the rest of the Newcastle United squad?

So this is how the updated Newcastle United contracts situation currently looks (via official club releases and media reports), when current deals are up:

End of June 2026:

Schar, Targett, Ashby, Trippier, Krafth, Lascelles, Ramsdale

End of June 2027:

Pope, Burn, Jacob Murphy, Willock

End of June 2028:

Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy

End of June 2029:

Hall, Vlachodios, Gordon, Wissa, Thiaw, Tonali (effectively end of June 2030 as the club can trigger an extra year)

End of June 2030:

Elanga, Botman, Ramsey

End of June 2031:

Woltemade

Looking at the situation above, Newcastle United are in a pretty good position.

Unlike other clubs, there are no key players in their prime, seeing contracts set to end in the near future.

Of those who see their deals set to end this summer, we may see the likes of Schar and Trippier offered an additional season. When they have played this season, both defenders have been generally very good, so if they are up for another year, it wouldn’t be the worst idea keeping them in the squad.

I have always thought as well that Newcastle United looking to get Kieran Trippier involved on the coaching side is a bit of a no-brainer, I think for sure he will have been a massive help to the likes of both Hall and Tino in their progress. Obviously this will depend a lot on what Kieran Trippier sees as his future, the same with Fabian Schar. If either of these players want to extend their stay at St James’ Park, as players and/or on the coaching side, then I would love it.

For those who see their contracts end in June 2027, I would imagine Eddie Howe and the club will be at the very least be looking to offer the likes of Pope, Burn and Jacob Murphy an additional year to be added to their current deals.  This is what they have regularly done with Schar and others in their 30s age bracket. All the signs are that Joe Willock could be leaving sometime this year and probably the best way forward for both club and player.
