Wolves 0 Newcastle 0 – Sunday 18 January 2026 2pm

Instant fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘Yet another average away performance, this time against the team with only 7 points.

It took us 85 minutes to get our first shot on target and that just about sums up our attacking performance.

To have that much possession without really threatening the team propping up the League, albeit it in poor conditions, is disappointing.

Let hope for better things on Wednesday, then again we are at home and that seems to be where we can only play our good football at the moment!’

Billy Miller:

‘We must have had our fill of excitement for the month.

That was as dull as it gets.

Woltemade has got a lot of ability but he needs to get into training and practice heading relentlessly. A player of his stature needs to be converting the crosses we’re providing.

Golden opportunity to go fifth.

With much tougher games coming up we may rue the dropped points.’

GToon:

‘A missed opportunity.

We had some reasonable chances but lacked whatever it is, that fraction of a second or centimetre that makes the difference.

Tonali needs a rest.

We look like we struggle against a team that defends deep against us. We don’t seem to be able to unlock defences. Still, we didn’t lose.

I think Eddie will learn a lot from this game. He didn’t look very happy.’

Matt Busby said…:

‘We looked as lethargic as I’m feeling, sat here nursing a dreadful cold, cuddled up on the sofa with the whippet keeping me company, a surrogate hot water bottle, performing her job admirably, whilst we watched Newcastle United huff and puff.

Wolves made a game of it with 90 minutes on the clock, which was a pity because we could have done with the added on time after pretty much squandering all of what went before it.

There were some positives, such as the clean sheet and the lack of injuries and for once Elanga didn’t look awful.’

David Punton:

‘An ongoing trend of the season – that of less fluency despite the attacking players we have.

This was a pretty drab game and the fact is we’ve failed to see off the bottom team who looked doomed to relegation.

The flip side is that there are no easy games in the Premier League.

If you’re not at your best you end up with nothing.

Thankfully, we do at least emerge with one point amid the busy fixture list.

The biggest concern is with our strikers.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘Sitting on the bus coming out of Molineux and where do we go after that performance?

For some reason, Chrissy Numbers was in charge of seat selection, so we found ourselves in row A with a pitchside view.

What did I take from my vantage point??

The players are giving 100% but it’s just not clicking at the minute.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t fill the ugly bus today. So it was a trip to the Midlands with the Chapel park massive and reunited with me old pal Tatty.

Personally, I think we are playing too much football and yes of course I will be there Wednesday.’

Mark Jankowski:

‘A frustrating afternoon against an incredibly poor Wolves side.

Newcastle never looked in any danger but toiled against a deep defensive line.

Howe’s like for like substitutions didn’t really impact the game.

It’s another situation where we need to try something different.’

Jamie Smith:

‘What a horrible miserable game.

Thoughts with anyone in the unwelcoming surroundings of the Black Country who is stuck in the rain after that one.

Wolves are better than they’ve been most of the season but still a bottom of the table side that we should have shown more against.’
