BBC Sport pundit on the money when it comes to these Newcastle United comments?
Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of this afternoon’s match.
Newcastle United facing Wolves at Molineux.
Eddie Howe and Newcastle United have won their last three Premier League games.
United knowing that if they make that four in a row, they will be minimum of top six after the weekend’s fixtures, in fifth if winning by two or more goals.
Chris Sutton saying ahead of the match: ‘This is a tough one to call because Wolves will feel like they have a little bit of momentum at last, while I am wondering where Newcastle will get their energy from – and how many fit players they have got left. Wolves are three games unbeaten in the league, including their first win of the season against West Ham, and they even looked like they were enjoying themselves when they beat Shrewsbury in the FA Cup – that has not happened very often at Molineux recently.’
As the man from BBC Sport points out, Wolves are unbeaten in four games in all competitions, winning two and drawing two, scoring 11 goals and conceding only three.
Whilst one of those was that 6-1 in the FA Cup over lower league Shrewsbury, Rob Edwards’ team certainly having a better time of it recently.
They had only picked up two points from their opening 18 PL matches but even the final three defeats in that run of games, included unlucky 2-1 away defeats at Arsenal and Liverpool.
Chris Sutton also points out the fact that Eddie Howe has at least seven players unavailable at the minute: “Newcastle have got a few players out, with Jacob Murphy the latest to be injured in their Carabao Cup defeat by Manchester City in midweek. Eddie Howe’s side have climbed to sixth on the back of three straight league wins, but after this they have a huge Champions League game with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday – so it will be interesting to see what team he picks here.”
It is an incredibly tough tight schedule, with games every midweek.
The man from BBC Sport adding: “Every game is important for Newcastle, but Howe will need to rest some players at some point. If he does it here, it could cost them. I’ve changed my mind a few times about the outcome of this one, but I am going to go for a draw.”
Wolves have drawn away at Man U and Everton, as well as beating West Ham, in their last three PL matches. So Chris Sutton going for a 1-1 draw isn’t without foundation.
However, despite PSV on Wednesday, Eddie Howe has just unveiled a very strong line up 75 minutes before kick-off, naming against Wolves: Pope, Tripper, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Tonali, Joelinton, Bruno, Barnes, Gordon, Woltemade
That is probably pretty much Eddie Howe’s strongest available eleven, with the likes of Wissa, Ramsey, Elanga, Ramsdale, Willock and Miley also available from the bench this afternoon.
I think that despite Wolves finding some form, this Newcastle United team can prove Chris Sutton wrong and make it four PL wins in a row.
