Newcastle United perspective on the Saturday Premier League fixtures
Looking at these Premier League fixtures on Saturday, in this round of matches.
Seeing the other games from a Newcastle United perspective.
Eddie Howe and his players not playing until 2pm on Sunday, away at Wolves.
Which is one of three Premier League fixtures tomorrow.
Now on Saturday though, as a Newcastle United fan, have a look at the seven Premier League fixtures today and have a think about what you’d like to happen and what is most likely in terms of results.
Before that though, lets have a quick look at the table before any of these Premier League fixtures are played this weekend.
Premier League table on morning of Saturday 17 January 2026
As you can see, Wolves are rock bottom in the full Premier League table, 25 points and 14 places behind Newcastle United.
My conclusions and predictions on Saturday’s matches
Man U v Man City (12.30pm)
In their last nine games in all competitions since November, Man U have only won two games. Away at rock bottom Wolves and when they totally fluked that 1-0 against United, Man U hardly getting out of their half after the break and somehow Eddie Howe’s side failing to take advantage.
Man City have lost just three of their last 29 matches in all competitions and won’t be losing this one.
They aren’t the irresistible force of a few years ago, but as the years roll by with still no announcement of punishment for breaking some or all of the rules on their 115 charges, Man City continue to spend for fun on transfer fees and wages. Semenyo the latest and Guehi will now follow.
Man U have totally fluked their way to be level on points with Newcastle at this stage and will end up bottom half of the table once again this season.
I think realistically Manchester City will almost certainly finish above Newcastle United and so when they hammer Man U this afternoon it will be for the best.
Chelsea v Brentford (3pm)
Eighth against fifth in the battle to be West London top dogs this season.
Brentford have picked up 13 points from a last possible 15 and won four games, Chelsea haven’t won any of their last five and picked up only three points. Indeed, Chelsea have won only one of their last nine games.
During this period the Chelsea owners have responded as they have always done, a huge pay off as they sack their manager, plans to pay out yet more fortunes on further signings this month, whilst their new puppet who will have no say on anything apart from picking the team is somebody who they have transferred over from another team they own. Yet the media slavishly going on like this is some new brilliant dawn for the repulsive Chelsea set-up.
Despite the form of the two teams and the absolute mess at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are still odds on to win today. You would be certifiable if backing them today at the odds.
Keith Andrews is doing an astonishing job and a win today, paired with Liverpool not winning, would see Brentford go top four.
I wouldn’t bet against that but my money is on Brentford to get at least a draw.
Leeds v Fulham (3pm)
Two form teams that aren’t losing many matches these days.
Leeds have only lost one of their last nine matches in all competitions and that was against Newcastle United.
Fulham have only lost one of their last eight games in all competitions and that was against Newcastle United.
Fulham are only a point behind Newcastle whilst Leeds are ten points adrift of NUFC, so we don’t want an away win at Elland Road, as Fulham would go above Newcastle.
I think this looks a draw.
Liverpool v Burnley (3pm)
Liverpool are yet to win a Premier League match in 2026 and their last home match was a 0-0 draw against Leeds when they were lucky to even get a point. Slot’s team have won only five of their last 16 Premier League games as well, losing six and drawing five.
Burnley are showing signs of life and their last six games in all competitions they have only lost twice, at home to Newcastle and away at Brighton. They have picked up draws against the likes of Bournemouth, Man U and Everton.
No doubt all of the experts will see this as an easy win for Liverpool but the formlines don’t point to that, Liverpool struggling at both ends of the pitch despite enormous investment in the squad.
I will be cheering on the visitors at Anfield (as always!) and wouldn’t be surprised if Burnley get a point. Whilst a defeat for Liverpool would see Newcastle United go above the scousers…
Sunderland v Crystal Palace (3pm)
Sunderland have only won two of their last twelve Premier League matches in a run lasting 12 weeks, they have won none of their last five. The Mackems are also easily the lowest goalscorers of all Premier League clubs, scoring only 23 goals in all competitions so far this season. Sunderland have only scored two goals in their last five PL matches.
The clowns who own Crystal Palace have done all they can to undermine the excellent Oliver Glasner and Marc Guehi won’t be involved today as he is heading to Man City.
Nevertheless, whilst a much changed Palace side managed to lose in the FA Cup to Macclesfield, they have steadied the ship in the Premier League. In 2026 Crystal Palace have only lost to Newcastle in the Premier League, whilst drawing against form sides Fulham and Villa.
Macclesfield might have beaten a makeshift Crystal Palace team but I can’t see Sunderland winning against their first choice team. Most likely a draw but no surprise if Palace win this.
Tottenham v West Ham (3pm)
West Ham look like relegation certainties, no wins in their last ten Premier League matches and losing five of their most recent six. Though they did get something kind of resembling a boost, when winning (after extra time!) at home to QPR in the FA Cup.
If they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop, then the Hammers probably need to be winning against an equally gutless Spurs, who stand only four places above them, despite huge spending on their squad.
Tottenham winning only two of their last twelve Premier League matches and that includes only one of their last six.
Spurs are another one who are odds on to win today but I wouldn’t risk a penny on a team and club with so little character. Any result is possible here and if West Ham’s small number of decent quality players, especially Bowen, produce a bit of magic, then they could win. If pressed, I would have to predict a draw and a match of very little quality.
Forest v Arsenal (5.30pm)
Any new manager bounce is long gone, as Forest fans experience life under Sean Dyche’s brand of football.
Losing in the FA Cup at Wrexham, Forest have also lost five of their last seven PL matches.
No surprise the only two exceptions were against the aforementioned gutless Spurs and West Ham. An 89th minute penalty against West Ham saw them win, after four PL defeats in a row.
Arsenal have won 26 of their 32 matches (all competitions) this season and lost only two.
Forest have only won two PL matches at home since the opening day of the season and they won’t be winning this one, yet another victory for the Gunners today.
