Some stunning Premier League stats

The latest round of matches now completed.

Monday night saw Bournemouth travel to Brighton for the tenth and final PL game this weekend.

Tavernier giving the visitors a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark.

Then just when it looked like Brighton were ending up pointless on the night, teenager Kostoulas came off the bench and scored a superb overhead kick in added time to claim a draw.

This completed a very interesting weekend of Premier League football.

A round of matches where very little went as expected.

This was how the Premier League table looked on Saturday morning before any of the ten matches had kicked off.

Premier League table Saturday 17 January 2026

The Premier League top six seeing these results:

Forest 0 Arsenal 0
Man U 2 Man City 0
Villa 0 Everton 1
Liverpool 1 Burnley 1
Chelsea 2 Brentford 0
Wolves 0 Newcastle 0

The Premier Leagaue bottom six seeing these results:

Brighton 1 Bournemouth 1
Leeds 1 Fulham 0
Forest 0 Arsenal 0
Spurs 1 West Ham 2
Liverpool 1 Burnley 1
Wolves 1 Newcastle 1

So not a single one of the top six won AND not a single one of the bottom six lost!

Does this point to how competitive the Premier League is these days? I can’t disagree, at least to an extent.

Does this point to inconsistency across the Premier League this season? For sure.

From a Newcastle United point of view, this is surely where you need to have some kind of wider perspective.

We are not alone.

Whilst not winning at Wolves was frustrating, it isn’t a case where Newcastle United are a stand out.

Champions-elect Arsenal couldn’t even score a goal, let alone win at relegation threatened Forest.

Liverpool led but could only draw with Burnley at Anfield, Parker’s side having picked up only three points from their last ten games before the weekend.

Aston Villa had won 13 of their last 16, drawing one, losing (away) to only Liverpool and Arsenal, yet losing to Everton at Villa Park.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, Wolves had been playing a lot better for the past month and their most recent three results had been away draws at Everton and Man U, plus hammering West Ham 3-0.

Drawing at Molineux was two points dropped BUT all of the top six dropped points, whilst none of the bottom six lost.
