3 Positives and 3 Negatives to take from Wolves 0 Newcastle 0
It ended Wolves 0 Newcastle 0.
Ahead of each game we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the match.
An ‘interesting’ match at Moineux.
Plenty to talk about after this Premier League game.
As United made it 10 points from a possible 12 but failed to make it four Premier League wins in a row.
On this occasion it is David Punton:
Keeping it clean
We emerged from Molineux with a clean sheet, a crumb of comfort on a really frustrating day.
This drab stalemate also extended our unbeaten Premier League run to four games.
Also – isn’t a point away from home always something to be welcomed?
Perspective
There were a few chances to smash and grab the game but it was slim pickings.
That said, if you step back, the points total isn’t a complete disaster.
We’re on the same points as that lot down the road (ahead of them on goal difference) and they’re apparently having a great season.
We’re right in the mix. Just three points off fourth. It’s all still to play for.
Changes had some benefit
The second half was a bit better.
It perhaps points the way ahead – get some crosses in for the strikers.
We always had control of the game.
NEGATIVES
Square pegs
Gordon and Barnes are surely in the wrong positions?
It’s not working at all. Howe needs to rethink it.
Toil and trouble
The club put a vast amount of budget on Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa in the summer after Isak jumped ship.
The German needs time to settle into English football and he’s still very young.
That said, he had a pretty blank game here.
The number 9, Wissa, has been a slow burn since the injury.
He was pretty ineffective and will know that he’s got to do better than this.
Basement boys
Wolves are going to be relegated.
It’s almost criminal we didn’t see off the league’s basement team. Typical NUFC strikes again.
Yes, they’ve found new fighting spirit since Rob Edwards took over, but this was one you’d have hoped we could win comfortably.
The fact we didn’t, is a concern, of course, in a season where the fluency feels like it keeps drying up.
It’s on the manager to sort it out.
