Newcastle United official announcement as David Young has sadly passed away

Very sad news as David Young has passed away.

Newcastle United releasing an official announcement on Tuesday morning.

The official release stating: ‘Newcastle United are deeply saddened to learn of the death of former player David Young at the age of 80.’

In the first team set-up at St. James’ Park between 1964 and 1973, David Young featured in successive Inter-Cities Fairs Cup campaigns in 1969/70 and 1970/71.

Young was raised in Walker and joined Newcastle United as a schoolboy and captained the club at reserve level as he progressed.

The Newcastle United official announcement going on to say: ‘Adept in defence or midfield, David Young went on to play for Sunderland, where he won the FA Cup in 1973, before captaining Charlton Athletic and finishing his playing career at Southend United.’
