Fans have say on Eddie Howe leaving Newcastle United and very interesting reaction if it happened
The question we were asking Newcastle United fans yesterday (Sunday 28 December 2025) was: How would you feel if Eddie Howe and Newcastle United parted company now?
We are now four and a half months into the 2025/26 season and almost at the end of 2025.
Last month was also the fourth anniversary of Eddie Howe arriving at St James’ Park.
After saving Newcastle United from what looked certain relegation when he arrived in November 2021, the three full seasons under this NUFC Head Coach have been eventful.
Two Wembley finals, two successful qualifying campaigns for the Champions League, plus of course a trophy.
This 2025/26 season has been up and down so far.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United squad having played 27 matches, with 12 wins, 6 draws and 9 defeats.
Breaking that down…
In the Premier League it is played 18, won 6, drawn 5, lost 7.
However, it has been smooth passage through to a Carabao Cup semi-final for a third time in four seasons, only one round away from a third Wembley final in four years.
Whilst in the Champions League, Eddie Howe and his team picking up 10 points in six games so far, putting themselves into a great position to reach at least the play-offs for the last 16 knockout stages.
We just wanted to get a snapshot of opinion on how Newcastle United fans currently feel about Eddie Howe.
Heated debates seem to follow every single match now, about where Newcastle United are currently at, including the best way forward.
Social media is rarely the best guide as to what the Newcastle United fanbase are thinking, as it is usually the case that those who shout loudest, who are most extreme, get the most attention. Plus of course a lot of Newcastle United fans aren’t even active on social media.
Much of the debate does of course concern Eddie Howe, the boss of the Newcastle United team.
What do fans really think now?
So we are asking this question of Newcastle United fans, which word would best describe your reaction if this happened today…?
How would you feel if Eddie Howe and Newcastle United parted company now? We gave fans the following six options, from one extreme (Ectatic) to the other (Devastated), with four in between those extremes.
1% Ecstatic
3% Very Happy
12% Pleased
24% Disappointed
25% Very Unhappy
35% Devastated
Many thanks to the 3,000+ Newcastle United fans for taking the time to vote, to tell us how you would feel if Eddie Howe now left.
As stated above, it is often very difficult to gauge for sure online, especially due to the noise on social media, exactly what the consensus of fans is, on any subject.
With thousands of Newcastle United fans having voted, made their feelings known, I think it is a very decent snapshot of the true majority, those who rarely/never share their thoughts online.
I didn’t really know exactly how this vote would go, you can never be sure.
However, a huge 84% making clear they want Eddie Howe to stay, with 60% saying they would be devastated or very unhappy if the NUFC Head Coach left now, that is overwhelming.
Only 16% indicating they would prefer Eddie Howe to leave now AND of those, only 3% going for the strong options of very happy or ecstatic.
This poll result showing how thousands of Newcastle United fans feel about Eddie Howe, doesn’t of course mean that the time will never come when it may be best for him to part company with NUFC.
However, my feeling is that this poll result backs up what I think and what I hoped the vast majority of other Newcastle United fans think. That it is ridiculous to think Eddie Howe leaving now would be a positive thing for ourselves and our team and club, that it is instead a case of as a minimum, we give it the rest of this season and then take stock then.
