Leeds fans now back following their team in the Premier League and a visit to St James’ Park.

Daniel Farke and his team arriving on the back of an unbeaten seven match run.

Leeds fans seeing their team take the lead on three occasions.

Only for each time Newcastle to equalise.

Then that huge moment, Leeds fans watching on as 12 minutes into added time, Harvey Barnes swivels in the penalty area and strikes the winner!

Leeds fans commenting via their Marching On Together message board:

‘Newcastle did NOT deserve to win this

Sick, all that hard work and we give away goals like candy

UGH……. this one hurts…. more than any other this season.

If we had drawn id have mentioned lots of positives.. But this was bad to lose it at the end!’

‘Yes, it hurts not to close the game out and win it. But give Newcastle a little credit. They kept fighting and found a way. It was a cracking match!!’

‘Just like players made mistakes in this game, so did Farke. He could/should have made better subs, but like all of us he isnt immune to making mistakes. It wasnt a bad performance against a very strong Newcastle side at home. And hard as it might be to do for some fans, give Newcastle some credit, it wasnt all our won fault we lost.’

‘What a cracking match to watch! Would’ve been incredible for the neutral. It was a close, tightly contested match that we were unlucky to be on the wrong end of. Credit to Newcastle. They are a good team and we were on their home turf. I think there’s a tremendous amount of positives to take away from this one.’

‘Great going forward.

Scoring three goals away from home, we should be at least earning a point, we’d have won the game if not for some abysmal defending, even though Newcastle have a quality attack.’

‘Now I’m glad I was stuck in a meeting.

Not sure I can bring myself to watch the replay.’

‘Mate, we lost, but you’ve missed an absolute classic.’

‘Positive – Played Well to a point, Aaronson was outstanding

Negative – Perri at Sea, not enough to cope with the Toon changes.’

‘Why 64 do we have that sense that we will go from3-2 to 3-4 ! I was just the same and to make it worse I had a Newcastle mate chirping away at me and then to top it all Barnes gets the winner in the last second….I feel so low at the moment, expected it but can’t believe it.’

‘The writing was on the wall, there was a ten-minute period in the first-half where our defence were all at sea. Too many scary defensive moments in the second-half for us to hold on against a pacey, quality attack. In the end, Newcastle’s attack overpowered us.’

‘Once again we have plenty of fans giving out about the added on time (injury time not extra time), 10 was added on (10 minimum not maximum) for subs, goals, var checks and the Schar injury, during those 10 minutes there were 3 subs, 2 goals which one was a penalty with a var review so all those things taken into account of course there’s going to be much more than the minimum of 10, I don’t get how folk don’t understand that.’

‘When I saw the Newcastle line-up before KO, I thought we were going to get pumped. As it turns out, I’m gutted we didn’t get at least a point from a cracking game. Subs, or lack thereof, definitely cost us, but I can’t be too downhearted as we matched what is an established top 6 Prem side. Had to be f…ing Harvey Barnes, of course, he loves scoring against us. Proud of the performance, in the main, poor in-game management let us down. But we go again.

As others have said, forget about the cup, put the second 11 out and give our first team core a rest. They need it!’

‘Far more attacking than I thought we’d be with that line up and I’d do it again away from ER.

We lost but didn’t deserve it.

The penalty was unfortunate too, Aaronson’s arm was behind his back and he didn’t mean to handle it but it was in an unnatural position though.’

‘Good performance and deserved a win
– We switch off defensively in every match and that gets punished at this level. Farke is also very slow to react to situations when the opposition are clearly targeting our weaknesses.’

‘Positive : Scored 3 goals away from home and created plenty chances,

Negative : Sloppy defending and poor goalkeeping ultimately cost us.’

‘Incredible game, we looked like a PL team for long stretches, great fight and spirit in the side, massive effort and some players need a break before Fulham.

terrible way to lose a game and hopefully we bounce back quickly, we lost the lead 3 times and we don’t defend like a PL team (to contradict the above). Depth off the bench badly exposed in this fixture.’

‘I think some folk forget the difference in quality of the squads – particularly the depth that Newcastle have. How many expected a performance like we witnessed.

I do not mind losing if the team play with passion, commitment and bravery. I was seriously doubting Farke after Brighton and Forest. But we look a pretty solid unit now.’

(Leeds fans asked before the match which three Newcastle United players they would want for Leeds)

‘Malick Thiaw

Bruno Guimaraes

Nick Woltemade.’

‘Gordon, Woltemade and Wissa.’

‘Wissa, Gordon, Hall.’

‘i do not know any think about any of them apart from Pope.’

‘Pope, Guitamares and Wolfie for me. Who are we giving them in exchange?’

‘Top 5
Guimarães
Woltemade
Pope
Gordon
Tonali’

‘Gordon, Guimares, Woltemade for me

Harvey Barnes came to mind as he has been persistent pain in the backside playing against us and that would eliminate that possibility.’

(Then after the match…)

‘Wish I hadn’t said that.’
