If Newcastle United owners pulled plug it would be back to me and my mates buying the tickets

I managed to bag a couple of Bournemouth FA Cup match tickets as Newcastle United members via the ballot, for me and my lad.

Surprised, more shocked, that we had success in getting tickets.

Great article on The Mag by Lewis Jones, who points out his lack of success in the ballots, but more importantly the lack of transparency from the Newcastle United owners and their senior staff about the number of members and available tickets.

Last season, we got tickets for a few games, which justified the membership fee. This season not so.

The Bournemouth tickets our only success since one in September.

Is it because Bournemouth have knocked back most of their allocation which means extra ticket are available for general sale?

Just like Lewis, I now have a collection of “unfortunately you have been unsuccessful” emails in my inbox. I intend to persevere with my quest for tickets but it is an ongoing concern.

The argument put forward by some is that you did not support the club when we were bobbins, so now we have a modicum of success, tough luck.

Well that argument does not ring true.

Lifelong Newcastle United fans gave up their season tickets in protest at the way the club was being run.

Just because people held on to their season tickets when the situation was dire does not give them superiority over lifelong supporters who ditched their tickets in disgust, or like me, simply spoke with their feet.

For me personally it was my son’s coming of age and his love for football that got me back on the Newcastle United treadmill.

In the dark days, tickets were easy to get. Sitting in the Gallowgate end with my mates and our kids. Away day tickets no problem as we were hopeless under the brain dead stewardship of Mike Ashley and only trying to stay in the Premier League. A dark era indeed but tickets were easily purchased as few people wanted them.

The Newcastle United takeover has reinvigorated the club and helped bring us the first silverware in decades but with it an expectation.

If the Saudi Arabia PIF decided to pull the plug on our great club, it would be back to me my mates and our kids buying the tickets, as long as the Newcastle United owners were fit for purpose.
