Have Newcastle United missed an opportunity with Conor Gallagher?
I noticed that my old mate Conor Gallagher moved on from Atletico Madrid to Tottenham for a paltry £35 million.
Was this a missed opportunity for Newcastle United?
Could he have been the “Longstaff upgrade” we seem to be lacking?
I have been a big admirer of Conor Gallagher for a long time but I would say we were right to pass on this occasion.
Firstly, he’s not the player who I remember marauding all across the middle of the park and banging in worldies when he was on loan with West Brom and Crystal Palace.
He has slowed up and become more defensive and physical ie dirty.
There’s a reason the Madrid fans dubbed him pit bull!
Secondly, he was reportedly on £150,000 a week in Madrid and has most likely upped that wage with his move to Spurs.
There’s no way we’re likely to be competing with those figures at the moment – that’s exactly how we lost out on a host of targets in the summer.
Fortunately, our Brazilian pit bull seems to have rediscovered his mojo recently, so I think we’ll manage without Conor Gallagher.
Wolves up next.
Another massive game in the context of our push towards the Champions League places.
Whilst at the same time keeping our Wearyside neighbours in their rightful place ie below us.
Howay the Lads!
