Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the weekend action.

The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.

Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.

This NUFC player with a stunning performance in the 4-1 victory at Everton.

Troy Deeney explains why he has chosen this Newcastle United star for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:

Malick Thiaw (Newcastle):

“Scored two at Everton and has been a real revelation since he came from AC Milan.

“He made a lot of mistakes last season in Serie A but Eddie Howe and Newcastle seems to be a good fit.

“He has been a beast these last few weeks – two goals also obviously helps as a centre-back.”

Troy Deeney Premier League team of the week:

Bart Verbruggen (Brighton)

Reece James (Chelsea)

Malick Thiaw (Newcastle United)

Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City)

Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)

Boubacar Kamara (Aston Villa)

Tyler Adams (Bournemouth)

Cody Gakpo (Liverpool)

Igor Thiago (Brentford)

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Manager:

Regis le Bris (Sunderland)

My thoughts

Troy Deeney selecting Malick Thiaw for a second Premier League round of matches in a row.

After the 2-1 victory over Manchester City, he stated; “I watched him a few times last year in Italy for AC Milan and he was getting killed because he was making mistakes. But at Newcastle he’s been a monster. He’s been really strong and powerful and looks elegant. It looks like he’s found a spiritual home.”

I have read elsewhere that it has been massively overstated the mistakes he made at AC Milan last season, Thiaw made a bit of a scapegoat at times by fans and media (Which we know all about when it comes to Newcastle United and certain players,,,).

We can only go on what we have seen as Newcastle United fans this season and as Troy Deeney says; his consistent excellent play was on show yet again at Everton…plus goals!!

I think there were other individuals on Saturday who could and should have walked into any Premier League team of the weekend. However, surely the most bizarre and glaring omission is how Eddie Howe wasn’t chosen by Troy Deeney as manager of the week, considering that he oversaw such a dominant hammering of Everton on their own turf, something that I didn’t see any pundits or journalists predicting.
