Newcastle United fan/writer reaction after Newcastle 2 Fulham 1
Newcastle 2 Fulham 1 – Wednesday 17 December 2025 8.15pm
Newcastle United fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
Nat Seaton:
‘WE DID IT!!!
We made hard work of it but in the circumstances let’s just take the win!
Lewis Miley you beauty – saved us from the dreaded penalties.
I’m not going to complain about the performance, we are in the semis and we can definitely play better than we are, here’s hoping it starts on Saturday.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘Get in!
There was only one team that wanted to win this Cup tie in 90 minutes.
Fulham got what they deserved and we’re in a third League Cup semi-final in four years, Lewis Miley finding a way in injury time to avoid the dreaded penalty shootout.
Bruno captain fantastic again.
Some other decent performances out there. Wissa on the scoresheet in his first start bodes well. After a less than convincing start at right back, Lewis Miley grew into the game and Jacob Ramsey did too.
I hope the bloke behind me that booed Elanga when he took to the field is ashamed of himself.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘Well that’s a relief, after the game that will not be mentioned..
Luckily for me, being Newcastle’s number one fickle fan, I can safely say Mileycastle has been fully reintegrated back into the east stand casuals squad.
A quick mention to the 900 or so Fulham fans for making the trip.’
Mark Jankowski:
‘A third semi-final in four years is impressive stuff.
It wasn’t a vintage performance but Fulham are a decent side, albeit one that lacks a credible goal threat.
They made things awkward for Newcastle for the second time this season but we got the job done and are 180 minutes away from Wembley!’
GToon:
‘A proper cup tie.
Close game and then a last minute winner and for once it was for us. We deserved it.
Delighted to see Wissa get his first goal and I bet Miley is buzzing.
Hopefully Tino is ok for Saturday. Him and Hall need to be fit for us to do well.
A win is a win and happy days are here again!’
David Punton:
‘We needed that!
God bless Lewis Miley on a night when it felt like we’d never get over the line.
For all the devastation of losing on Sunday we can at least look forward to another major semi-final – and surely we can only get better.
Wissa is now officially back and in young Miley we have a gem on our hands.
It wasn’t vintage tonight, but after Sunday that was just the tonic for us, and no doubt for Eddie Howe and the players.
This was always going to be a tough season to follow the highs of the last one.’
Billy Miller:
‘We end a tough seven days on a high.
Wissa looked sharp and got in plenty of dangerous positions. A perfect example being his goal. If that’s him at 70/80%, I think he’s going to be a top asset when he’s up to full speed.
Livramento must have touched every blade of grass tonight. He turned up everywhere. It was interesting seeing him roaming so much. Possibly a tactic shift being experimented with?
Frustrating to see him go off and, on top of our other defensive injuries, we are severely stretched.
A tremendous way to win. Miley seeing what looked like the winner brilliantly saved and then heading in from the resulting corner.’
