Sky Sports need to start playing fair with Newcastle United
I just wanted to talk about Sky Sports and Newcastle United.
I couldn’t get to the match last night and so had to watch on TV.
I have to say, their coverage left a bit to be desired.
Not a patch on the last one I watched on Sky Sports but more of that later!
Listening to the commentary during the match, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was getting on my nerves.
That was nothing though compared to the expert pundits in the studio, Micah Richards (ex Man City) and especially Jamie Redknapp (ex Spurs and Liverpool).
I thought Redknapp was ridiculously biased towards his former club and might as well have been wearing a Spurs shirt! Fair enough if there was an ex Newcastle player to counterbalance this daftness then fair enough.
I said earlier about the previous match I had ‘enjoyed’ on Sky Sports.
Well, I very much enjoyed the match BUT not the Sky Sports commentary.
This was the Everton 1 Newcastle 4 match and consider who Sky Sports had chosen…
The ex-player chosen to be co-commentator was Andy Hinchcliffe, former Everton player.
In the studio was Phil Jagielka, former Everton player.
The other ex professional in the studio was Izzy Christiansen, former Everton player.
We had the last laugh with the final score of course BUT it was like watching Everton TV (if such a thing exists??), the punditry and commentary was laughable. They almost had a wake on Sky Sports as Everton got hammered.
How can the Sky Sports bosses honestly put this as a line up?
Also, what is this weird fascination with Sky Sports having so many pundits that previously played for one or more clubs in the north west? It seems to be either that or those who played for cockney clubs that get the jobs. I know Carragher and Neville are the two main men but is there really any need to load it up any further with players who played the key part of their careers in the north west?
